. . . ============================================== Adulthood 1994 ============================================== . Quietly, I reach inside myself To that deep-buried part Where I put my dreams so long ago Kept them safe from harm Unravelling them from lambent cave I dart around the place Blithe spirit bounding in nature's wonder I lost it long ago . Shackled and shuttered, put to work On proper things, retreating dreams From childhood to manhood And back again Full circle, trauma drove them deep But now they rise when all is safe Strong I feel, and hence they come Back into wonderland . That life could be illusory Was something I did not dare dream Mundane and lifeless seemed to me My lot, observing other souls But life has dealt a blissful blow I wonder how I ever managed Cartesian life I shed like skin And come to you . ============================================== (c) 1994 James McGowan - all rights reserved ============================================== .
